sounds like you have a thermostat stuck open
abs has little or nothing to do with the normal brake system. abs is like icing on top.
check the abs fuses and relays, then move on to checking resistance of the abs sensors. the connectors can cause problems too.
if the shutter wheels are full of rust they will confuse the abs brain.
even if abs is totally non functional the brakes will work.
