Well I FINALLY got the calipers I paid too much for at auto zone in, in about the time eeuroparts could have had them here. Anyway..
They went on alright, pain is I'll have to do hoses and rotors in a month or so ($$ is thin). I bled the crap out of the front and rear doing the RF/LR LF/RR pattern till I got clean fluid. It stops without pulling either way, parking brake works well. The pedal is not as hard as I'd like, but I don't know what it should feel like really, nor what kind of pads are on the front, and I know there cheap ones on the rear for now.
I might try bleading again, but I think this is probibly good as it's going to get for now.
Installed my shiny new idle control valve, reset base idle, double checked the TPS is showing when it's closed, cleaned the throttle body again. It still idles funny. I'll have to report on cold start again later, but when warm it still varies 300-400 RPM. And it likes to dip quite a lot then spring back up and settle in comeing off throttle on the road. I adjusted some of this out of it, but I think I cheated the base idle a little high to do it. Still "static" idle is 800ish. I checked the hooter valve as well, holds vacuum all around, very audible with my home-made intake. Little more than I'd like really. It's anoying, this idle, because I'm a nitpicker, but it'd perfectly driveable.
Ordered my Kuhmo ECSTA ASX's from tirerack.com today, $287.50 shipped, got the 205/55/15's speced for the 87 and up model. No idea why the 86 was listed for smaller tires, go figure. I suspect tires will make it drive LOADS better...
I also installed my little Kenwood, front speakers are blown, but least I have MP3 ability again.
Right front balljoint (i assume) is creaking now and then, hope it will last a bit. I felt no real play in it when I had the wheel off the other day.
Getting there..
