This is also a critical step.Carefully razor blade off all the old gasket from the block.You have to hold it at a ery low angle as to not gouge the metal.Then when all the old gasket is off you can take a wire wheel and really clean up the block surface and you can also bring each piston up to the top of it's travel and wire wheel it clean.just vacumm out the cclinders and I also had a shop vac in one hand as I was razor blading the old gasket off.Now when the block surface is as clean as you can get it,then tou flush it with carb cleen or brake cleen.You really want to get all of the oil residue out of the metal so the new HG really seats in when the block and head surfaces heat up.So clean, that when you wipe it with a clean white T-Shirt type rag it comes off clean.You really have to spend hours on it.And I think this is the benefit of doing the job yourself along with the savings $$.
