I filled up in Denver and took the back roads through Colorado mtns to Wyoming border, then on to Jackson WY. I filled up in Jackson with gas still in the car, I think it was near 1/4, and 780 or so on the trip odo.

All through the mtns I was getting unreal readings on my mileage meter. I remember one long uphill in WY where I was getting something like 35mpg at 70mph. Felt like twilight zone. I was regularly getting 45-50mpg registering when taking a more relaxing 55-65 through some of the back roads. I filled up again 3 days later in Cody WY after cruising through Yellowstone, and my next fill was in Minnesota.

This was in my '87NA 9000, which had a gas tank that was 18.7 or so capacity. My normal flatland hwy driving in Mich, OH, and IL was 30-35mpg, same as all my manual Saabs 99,c900, & 3 9000s. I'd be devastated with 25mpg! Note that the 99 was owned when speed limits were 55. It was wound up pretty tight at 70, so if I had been driving 75-80 like now, mileage would have been less I bet.

I don't know why my mileage seems to be higher than a lot of Saabers. I usually get up to speed quickly and set the cruise once there. I go 9mph over posted speed and have never gotten a ticket. If I don't set the cruise, I find myself doing 85-90 real quick. I also try to anticipate traffic and stops and coast where possible. Better yet, coast up to light and not have to come to a full stop. But that doesn't account much for hwy speeds for long distances. I'm at a loss to explain that.
