If 1/2 a quart of oil would be leaking out through that spot of head gasket you would have soo much oil down the side of engine and transmission you wouldn't beleive it.
So I think the most amount of oil is consumed through the engine.
Pretty much 100% of the Saab engines have some sweating of oil in that area due to the design of the head and engine block/cover.
It wasn't until 97 when they started to use a different head bolt and also had problems with the torque of bolts that the leak from that spot got big enough to be a problem.
If you do see clear oil coming out from that area after cleaning up all dirt collected, you might more be in need of a new head gasket since the gasket material might have withered away.
