First, thanks to everyone who took the time to respond. I appreciate it, and the suggestions were certainly good ones.
To make a long story somewhat shorter, the bottom line is: changed thermostat, flushed radiator, changed coolant, and everything seems fine.
The head gasket seems fine, haven't seen white smoke; no apparent coolant in oil or transmission fluid, or vice versa. No leaks
Seems the coolant's muddy color seems to have been a result of Barrs Leak.
Got the car back late Friday and only drove it home. Temperature running as usual, (thermosensor wasn't fried) So far everything seems fine, but will monitor closely.
Once again, everyone, thanks!
Rick
