My wife and I are planning on taking a trip next month, and it has become obvious to me that I will need extra carryall space besides the trunk of the 9000 turbo. Also coming with us will be my wife's two sisters, and our 15-month-old daughter. I know, I'll be stuck in a car with 4 females for about 10 hours! But that's another post!

Obviously, I have two choices: use a roof rack, or get a hitch and rent a U-Haul trailer. I have a few specific questions:

Which option generally produces better gas mileage (weight in each being equal)? I'm guessing that the aerodynamic gains of a trailer don't matter because of the weight of the trailer, but could be wrong.

Which is easier to manage in terms of loading/unloading/parking?

What are the pros and cons of the two options?

Thanks for any input.
