Eibach springs have a good reputation for quality and comfort. However, do you still have the self-levelling Nivomat shocks on the back of your CD? They're fatter than the standard ones. If so, maybe the rear springs now on the car will be relatively soft and it may make sense to change the shocks as well (all round - not a good idea to just do one end). But this is not my subject and maybe you should Search for "Nivomat" to track down some more opinions.
Personally I would slip on a set of adjustable Konis while you're down there - as Daven says the bolts at the rear can often be rusted and you would do well to replace the bushings anyway.
Don't know about the rubbing because experience seems to vary. Your '90 car has less room in the arches than the later shape, and I think the recommended size was 205/50-16 rather than 205/55. So it may be a little tight but worth a try. Some people who lower earlier cars have gone to 205/45 tyres but these will stiffen the ride even more and will be harder to find at a sensible price (plus I imagine you already own some tyres!). More opinions to search for, here and on the Performance board.
