...we bought our car new in October '91, and shortly thereafter the throttle body was replaced under a service campaign. We'd never had any problem with the original, but shortly after the replacement we had our first TCS CTRL experience. They'd mangled a pin in the connector at the TB when replacing it the first time. Oh well.

Fast forward four years and out of warranty. Start getting intermittent limp-home again. I find that the motor end-housing with the connector on it can pivot ~20deg in its housing. Mechanic tells me this is normal, but I find that if I let it rotate down (cable weight hanging on connector) it will intermittently do the limp-home thing. If I tie the cable up to the bracket, holding the connector rotated up, it wouldn't. So I pulled the throttle body, drilled a 1/8in hole thru the housing and the housing end with the connector all the way up, put in a roll pin, and reinstalled, no further failures so I took it to the shop for ISAT recalibration and it was fine for three years until it finally failed completely.

At this point, fourteen-plus years and 170K miles from new, post-warranty the TCS has had one replacement throttle body (used '93 part, installed early '00 IIRC), two check valves ('97-ish and '04), and some new hoses.
