OK,
I've had the 94 Aero automatic for a couple of days and I'm starting to identify some issues that require attention (i.e. money).
1.) Really annoying shake in the wheel from 45 up under mid to high acceleration. Car is OK at low speeds. Calms down a bit when coasting. Is this really all mounts? I know its been a while since I had my 88 but I honestly don't remember it being this bad. I had the tires balanced today and it didn't improve much if at all.
1a.) If it is mounts what kind should I get? I've been reading all the back messages and I hate to say it but I'm still a bit confused. Ari, where are you! Please don't get mad when I ask you to retype something you've probably already done in the past :)
Considering the car is an automatic it looks like the poly-urethane mounts on the uppers would probably be a bad idea. Solid or fluid on the bottom? Eeuroparts.com has what appears to be a whole upper mount assembly for $50 bucks. Why would i get the two inserts and the $60 tool to take out the inserts if I can just get the whole piece for that (maybe I'm making this simpler than it really is)?
Also, I am thinking about tackling this on my own but if I don't does anyone know a good mechanic in Western Michigan (St. Joe Area)?
1b.) If its not the mounts what else could be creating this vibration? The suspension bits look to be in decent shape and the alignment is spot on, the guy at the tire shop said I probably have another 10k miles on the Yoko's the car has on it but that they are pretty feathered.
2.) The car has aftermarket 17in wheels on it. Any rubber suggestions? Im in Western Michigan so there will be a lot of snow in the winter. I'd like a nice all season. It has Yoko Avids on now.
3.) Central locking system only works on the driver's door and the rear passenger door. How do I fix?
3.) Busted tranny dip stick. I obviously need one of these as I'd like someone to flush the system and make sure it has the right amount of fluid in it. Where do I get a new one and is there any reason why I shouldn't have the system flushed?
4.) Oil leak, where are the common spots? The dealer said the valve cover and the oil pressure sensor have minimal leaks but the guy who changed the oil today said there was a lot on the bottom of the engine.
I'll feel much better once I get the car professionally detailed (I could spend hours on it and it'll never look quite as good as what the guys in the hood will do to it for $100 bucks). I can tell she'll clean up nicely, the red just looks a little dull as theres a bit of oxidation that needs a good buff job. Thanks as always!
