The low reading after startup is normal. The EDU reads the minimum voltage (at the starter, I think) when cranking and displays that for a while, even though the alternater is putting out charge imediately after start-up. If you hit the info button right after the engine starts running, you'll see the real output. This sounds light a bad cable or connection somewhere. Clean all the connections at the battery, connecter block, and especially all the grounds on the engine/frame. Then measure voltage at the battery while cranking, and at the different junctions. Any significant voltage drop over a wire will tell you if you've got a bad cable. Also, check the ground and wires to the alternator.
