After further analysis, it appears as though once again this is an alternator issue. This alternator was installed 25 months ago and has seen less than 10,000 miles of use... Unfortunately, the 25 months means that it is no longer under warranty. Bummer.
So, my local mechanic is going to replace the voltage regulator on the alternator, as that seems to be causing the problem, and this repair will be less expensive than a full replacement.

Now I'm trying to figure out what could be causing my car to eat through alternators. Any ideas? The only electrical thing that I can think of that seems to be timed with these occurences has been the adjustment of the resistance in the temperature gauge to make it read correctly (not high).

If anyone's got any similar experiences or ideas, I would love to hear about them!
