96 9kT A/C doesn't work

My 96 9000 Turbo AC won't turn on. In the process of diagnosing it, I wanted to rule out the electrical piece. So I started the car, turned on the AC, and jumped the compressor solenoid directly to the battery. The compressor turned on, but the air coming out of the ducts is warm. I forgot to mention the air was very cold right up until the end of last summer, and all winter long I ran the heat in the ECON mode, so the compressor didn't get a chance to cycle until I tried the A/C for the first time this season. Is it possible that the gas leaked out thus inhibiting the compressor through a low pressure switch? Or did I miss something by jumping out the compressor solenoid, i.e. the signal must come from the ACC module or certain other things won't happen like dampers opening, etc. Also, I tried to find the site glass and couldn’t, do you know where it is located. Any help in diagnosing and fixing this problem is greatly appreciated. Thanks. --- Tony M
