Depends on whether I'm on local 2 lanes with 55mph limit, or Interstates with 70mph limit. I have done a lot of serious travel/commuting, and decided it was not worth listening to radar detectors and trying to out guess the local technology. No one seems to mind limit +10mph. I set the cruise and relax.
My experience with 3 9k is the long term display is pretty accurate. Gotta factor in the accuracy of the speedo. I've had as much as 7% pos variation on the speedo, which translates to 7% error in odometer. Factor that into your manual calculation of mileage.
The 50mpg, or 99.9mpg is due to coasting, or other high milage performance in my experience. Corrected over time, as more miles are racked up and things settle down.
I reset my mpg computer on a recent 800mi trip. I was canoeing with my son, so a 17ft Grumman was mounted on the roof, and I was driving into a 15-20mph headwind. I started off at 24mpg, but averaged out to 27.5 over 300mi, driving 78mph or so.
If I reset the computer on a downhill, I'll get 99.9mpg, the actual mileage for the moment, until I head back uphill. Does that make sense? If the car is under low load as in doing 45mph, coasting, drafting, headed downwind, the mpg reading can look very good. In my experience it is accurate.
