Strange brake warning lights problem - ever seen this ? Posted by vtsnaab [Email] (#26) [Profile/Gallery] (more from vtsnaab) on Sat, 22 Jul 2006 02:32:07 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
This seems very odd to me and I hope someone can explain it !
I was on the interstate (I-91) and came into an elongated construction
area which kept everyone at a very slow 5MPH creep for about 40 minutes
in the bright sun on a hot afternoon.
Just before getting done with this unhappy creeping my 'brake fluid'
and 'ABS' warning lights came on and stayed on even when I shut off
the car and restarted it (easy to do when in that sort of traffic !).
Left the interstate and got to the first open auto parts place.
Opened the hood and checked the fluid to find the reservoir full and
a tiny bit looking like it was starting to oooze out the vent hole.
Opened the cap and it was completely 100% full.
Opened the electrical panel for ABS and checked the fuses, all fine
until I dropped the 10 amp fuse into the abyss, and the relays were
burning hot - reseated them just for good measure.
Went inside and bought a quart of brake fluid for the trunk with the
lid left off the panel, and after stowing the fluid I replaced the
missing 10 amp fuse and started the car.
The fluid level lowered normally and the lights went out !
I am thinking something got too hot - maybe just a relay ???
Of course the 10 amp fuse may have been bad too, and I won't be
able to verify that unless it turns up...
Is it possible for the ABS relays to overheat and make weird
stuff like this happen - has anyone else seen this before ?
Thanks !
