I am speculating the 94cs throwing a rod two Fridays ago is actually due to oil starvations again. When I saw the small oil puddle pooling up near the turbocharger exhaust outlet along with the 3/8" longitudinal play of the shaft, I suspect the turbocharger is losing enought oil to cause it. Here are the facts.
1) The engine oil was at the 9,000 mile mark of the 10,000 mile oil change schedule. I don't think I checked the dip stick after the oil change.
2) After it was stranded July 7 on I-287 (it threw the rod July 22), diagnosed to be a battery issue, the engine idled with loud valve tapping noises after starting. Although I thought it went away after 10, 15 minutes. This has never happened before. No. 1 piston rod may have already been damaged then.
3) The oil may have been slowly losing from the turbocharger. But the lost is not enough to show up in the exhaust. Five quart over 9,000 miles with it slowing going out of the exhaust must have depleted significant amount of it.
Would the oil pressure sender tell you if the oil level is low? I don't think so. It will let you know if the oil pressure is low. Now I am beginning to think the oil level sender SAAB removed from model year 94 (?) on isn't such a good idea. Even though the oil level sender leaks.
