Latlely i have a problem with my 87 9KT and the battery seemingly not holding a charge. The car is "nearly" dead overnight. Door locks & courtesy lights work, etc. Upon trying to start the car, all instrumennt panel dim to nothing and the car will barely turn over. If I jump the car, I can drive as long as I want (like to the airport) with accessories and everythings if I shut the car off - same thing. No start. Dead. No battery light while driving. EDU read out is fairly normal. Mine always read around 13.3 to 12.6 while driving since I've had the car. About 25K. Post are tight & clean.
My previous experience with alternators is power loss while driving, cause Im running off the battery. The charging system on this car is about the only thing I havent worked on. The battery is about a year old. This started happening a couple weeks ago and could jump the car and it would recharge and stay for a week. Then this happened where it wont stay charged. Is there a way to test the voltage regulator. I'm good with voltmeters. Just got back in town today and will try to deal with tomorrow. Any tips or anything I should know before tackling?
Thanks in advance....Andy
