PROBLEM FIXED...AND EASY!!!
These Clarions during the early 90's were all prepped to be used with OR without the equilizer. Thus the signal output initially leave the radio via the round black connector which connects to the equilizer and the signal is routed back through the radio to the amp using the same connector (obviously). When an equilizer is not used there is a small cap which must be installed on the end of this connector. It is usually attached right to the cable itself. Inside the cap are pin connectors which "jumper" the signal right back to the radio. If the cap is loose or missing the output signal is deadheaded. The spare radio I had had no cap but my original still had the cap attached to the cable itself. Just plugged it in and all works fine.
Thanks for all the help & hope this helps others as the cap can be easily pulled loose when removing radio to get serial # for code retreval.
Cheers
The County
