I thought I shouuld get back to the basics. So coming home from work I did the compression test.
cylinder #1: 175 psi
cylinder #2: 185 psi
cylinder #3: 185 psi
Cylinder #4: 200 psi
As expected, the car started and ran before the no start symptom. So there was no reason the compression numbers should be low. But I just want to make sure. These are dry numbers. The spark plugs look normal and correctly gapped. After all, I bought this engine in March. It was from a 95 with 120k miles.
I wanted to swap the ecu with the 94cs next. But I didn't have to. When I removed the ecu, I stopped to examine a wiring splice I made when I got the car. This is the history only I know. When I finished the 5 speed conversion, I was puzzled that one wire was spliced all the way to the fuse panel. I didn't know what it was and why the PO did this. All I can do was to restore the original wiring and it ran.
This is pin 31 on the ecu, output to the main relay I later found. It simply jiggled loose when I looked at it. So the solution is right there. I cut a piece of wire and soldered two connections to make the wiring complete. That was it.
