Well I got some airbag in my face last night.Travelling in the fast lane way too fast because of being in a hurry.Broke my own cardinal rule of riding behind something I can't see in front of,a tall GMC van.Well he kicks up a full retread off of a big rig and me being about car length and a half behind him going 75mph the only thing I had time to do is wonder if it was coming through the windshield.I take it in the front bumper/grill/hood area and slightly to the right.Both air bags deploy and I guess I had my left hand at 11 o'clock with my thumb hanging down and it about ripped it off.The meaty part of my hand is swollen and getting black and blue.Well I managed to continue to track straight and dropped the windows down when I realized the cabin was filled with white smoke.
Didn't miss a beat and continued the 5 miles
home and got out to a folded hood,cracked right directional,cracked front bumper and wrinkled right fender.Also dripping washer fluid tank.This was my '95 Aero that I just found in July and recently buffed out and was really looking sweet.
Well,I will find a scrapper and fix her back up but it will be without airbags.I'll take my chances with seatbelts only.They held me perfectly in those Recaro's.So,lessons learned:never ride behind anything you can't see in front of.
Things can always get much worse in a hurry.I was looking at having to put rear rotors and pads on and now....
And please,no lectures,I take responsibility for my actions.
