With my younger son gone to college, we no longer need that many cars anymore. We have three 9k's, two 5 series and a Volvo 940 wagon. Wife correctly pointed out to me the other day, a wake up call, why I was still struggling to finish the 95 540 6 speed conversion. I had the package arrived in May. The engine and gear box are still in my garage. My demanding job doesn't help one bit. I have been spending too much time to keep the aging fleet running.
I am talking about the 94cde I converted to 5 speed which I revived yesterday from a no start malady.
I bought the car on Ebay for $250 sight unseen. Converted to 5 speed. Screwed up putting the engine together installing the oil pump snap ring the wrong way. It eventually caused the engine's demise. I put in a 120k mile 95 engine in March. Soon after it was rear ended. The rear bumper on the driver side was pushed in ever so slightly. There were no significant damages. I repaired the mechanical damages and kept driving. The third party insurance totaled the car and paid us $3,500. So It doesn't owe us a dime.
Whether to sell it or part it out I couldn't leave it in the driveway not being able to start the car. That's why I went through the trouble to make it start again.
What is bad?
The rear bumper was pushed in about 1/4" inch on the driver side. The front bumper was cracked 12" on the top due to the collision. I bought a replacement bumper but I guess I'll throw it away now. It came to our house with a drooping headliner. I bought the fabric but never had the time to install it. The black leather driver seat has a 2" crack torn leather. It also came with a blinking SRS I never reset. Oh, I installed a growing front wheel bearing from my 95cse to replace the clunking one before the no start symptom occurred. (see the post a few lines down) I wanted to get a new bearing. Wife said don't bother. Oh, yes. No radio.
The good?
Strong engine and 5 speed with a good turbo. The engine has new seals. New fuel pump and new exhaust. The car is mechanically sound. Everything works except the blinking SRS.
Well I realize the car is damaged good not likely to fetch much selling. I'd be better off parting it out. I could probably get $2 grand out of it. It is just more work.
That is why I asked a question about shed recommendation on the General Board the other day.
