Hello everyone!
Man it's been a long time since i posted anything... been halfway around the globe working on a cruise ship for many many months. Missed my saabs immensly!
My new pride and joy is an 88 9000 "carlson".
I say this because I don't think carlson's were really around until after 88, correct?
There are some interesting features on this that make me wonder, coupled with NO carfax record of it in the US before 1994, when it appeared in BOSTON with over 100,000 miles on it. So, it was possibly sold in europe or australia and driven for a while, then shipped overseas...
It has a "US 88" big blue stamp under the hood however... who knows...
It has the nice momo steering wheel, a wood dash trim kit, wood shifter, and the nice rare digital clock / trip meter instead of the analog clock, which the digital clock / trip meter is all in the metric system with no apparent way to change it.
The guage cluster is "normal" as far as i've seen them in 9000's before, showing 250,000+ miles on the odo. now... it could have been converted from a metric one?
A puzzling issue for me regarding the EDU is that the display only shows the automatic gear selection screen, and it is a 5-speed transmission.
I was under the impression that manual saabs of 88-89 had the electronic MPG display bars on the edu rather than the auto gear selection screen.
Can someone confirm this for me?
Also, the 88 owners manual that came with the car, witch many references to australia in it shows the MPG screen that i'm thinking of, so...
(book shows many specifications for australia only, pictures of AU 88 stamps in the back of it, and many metric guages shown)
...perhaps the cluster was changed at some point after all.
Leaving me to wonder how many miles are actually on it, among other things.
Mark (whom i purchaes this beauty from) if you're reading this, and looking at the pictures... just forgive me.. that's all i can say :)
I AM going to "soup" it up a bit, the engine is burning tons of oil / leaking oil around the head... timing chain noise possibly... and... general dilapidated-ness... but consigering it's age and estimated mileage, i'm generally pleased about it's condition.
I added the decor panel recently... badges were already "shaved" when i bought it however...
spoiler is stamped "saab" underneath... original factory body kit... what year it was added... who knows... it has cut outs for headlight wipers... which i don't think they had until 90?
anyways... enough blabbering... here are the pics.
The first one is loaded on this page, the rest are links to click below.
I'm having a hard time deciding which wheels i like better...
