I was on the interstate, cruising along at about 65 and started losing
power, then sputtering, then it stalled right out, so I coasted onto
the exit which was right near and made it off to the side.
My fuel gauge said 1/4 full.
Cranked the engine and got only sputtering.
Went and opened the fuel cap and got the biggest vacuum release I have
ever heard from a fuel cap.
Checked the gauge again and it was all the way to empty...
Poured in some drygas I had in the trunk, about 48 oz.
After a long crank the engine started and my EDU had a CEL.
Drove to the nearest gas station where it took only 14 gallons
to be totally full.
I know I have driven this car recently until it was nearly empty
and it took 15.75 gallons (not a thing I make a practice of).
I don't understand what happened - any relation between the
excessive vacuum and the level measurement eludes my mind;
also - why would it act empty and stall out when there were
still 2 gallons left in it ?
Can anyone here help me to understand how this may have happened ?
Thanks,
mark
