Mary,
1. Open up the plastic cover of the tool kit on the right hand side of the trunk. It may be that the prior owner of the car may have tucked the emergency gas door release inside of this tool kit.
2. The central locking system (and the interior light) is controlled by fuse #16 in the fuse panel located on the lower side of the dashboard by the front passenger footwell. Fuse #16 is a blue 15 amp fuse. Try putting a replacement 15 amp fuse in there and see if that enables you to get the gas door open.
Possibly the new dimmer part that was installed may have caused the fuse to blow. The other thing that causes the fuse to blow is excessive resistance in the door lock mechanism or the electrical door lock actuators may have a short.
