(1) 1944 Willys Army Jeep complete with blackout lights and wheels that locked on the tires even when they were flat. Bought for $190 when I was 16.
(2) 1939 Oldsmobile Coupe. A Renault Dauphine once totaled itself on its spring steel rear bumper. I had to sign an affidavit to the poor fellow's insurance company saying he hit me because I had made no claim (could not find a mark on the bumper).
(3) 1956 VW bug. A go anywhere car. You could put it in first gear an it would climb out of a three foot snow drift, no snow tires needed. I once skidded on ice into a swamp. Two of us were able to left and shift one end at a time until we got it back to the road.
(4) 1955 Porsche Super 356 convertible.
(5) 1962 VW Bug (had to give up Porsche when 1st daughter born). More acceleration than the '56 Bug but lower top speed and no where near as good in snow.
(6) 1955 English Ford Council. Boring car but fairly dependable. Got us through a two year stay in Britain.
(7) 1969 Mercury Cougar. Another boring car but it required little maintenance.
(8) 1955 Rambler Station Wagon. Bought for a commuter beater but turned out to be a great family car.
(9) 1976 Pontiac Station Wagon. A decent but boring family car.
(10) 1979 Dodge Colt. Trouble free commuter.
(11) Bought an old VW Bus on a lark (can't remember what year) soon passed it on to my son.
(12) 1978 VW Bug Cabreolet. My grandchildren don't want me to sell it. It sees less than 400 miles per year in summer driving.

In 1986 I bought my first Saab (new). From it I learned that most things that go seriously wrong with Saabs occur in the first 40,000 miles. Since then I have bought pre-debugged Saabs.
