lower temps are common on new radiators, as there is some buildup that occurs , but I doubt it was the cause of the blowoff, as the pressure in the coolant system normally is much more than pressure caused by the waterpump.
The waterpump circulates the water, but it is in a system that due to heat raises the pressure, the water pump produces little pressure. If the water pump produced pressure it would override the thermostat.
The radiator replacement could have been unnecessary, and the blow off of the hose was most likely due to hose becoming old and bloated due to normal heat and pressure over a 10 year period.
Hose may have been the culprit as as the hose wears and becomes flat on the surface under the clamp it loosens. thus causing it to pop off.
