Once the CV boot rips its best to replace it right away because if any dirt gets into the joint it will destroy it. I had this experience just recently and had to replace the CV joints as well as the wheel bearings. Even though I replaced the boot once I saw it was torn, it was already too late. Your wheel bearings might be fine, but especially with high mileage older Saabs, they tend to wear out and it’s best to replace the drive shaft, and easy enough if you are already going to replace the joint. I would replace the whole unit just to ensure you won’t have to do this in the near future. Replacing the bearings and joints in my '91 9000 made a big difference.
