First, I have only used the crank locking tool one time and never again.
I see no reason whatsoever to use it for just replacing the timing belt.
The two cam locking tools can be a little bit difficult to insert but if you skip the crank locking tool, you might be able to move the cam shafts back and forth a little to insert both.
When the old belt is off and I have replaced all pulleys, I install the belt at crank first using the double white mark and insert the belt lock wedge.
I have also already pre set the two idler pulleys to the position in picture.
I route the belt over lower idler to 4th to 3d under upper idler to 2nd and the over 1st cam pulley and then down to tensioner pulley.
During the belt routing I always need to back engine slightly by tugging on the crank bolt backwards to tighten up the belt and when belt is over 4th sprocket, I remove 3-4 lock tool to get the belt over 3d and the remove the 1-2 lock tool when routing the belt over those sprockets.
Keeping the lock tools in place will make it almost impossible to get the belt in place.
It's a lot of trick of the trade things that you learn from doing it many times and those can be difficult to give out using written text instead of hands on show and tell.
Look at the picture and post again if you need clarification.
