I don't believe that you can reprogram auto/manual via Tech II.
Fuse 9 supplies, among other things, the switch in the automatic gear selector. As the Trionic manual says, when the lever is in any position other than P or N, the B+ power (from fuse 9) is connected to pin 14 of the ECU, indicating it is an automatic. That does two things - the first is torque limiting, by retarding ignition depending on throttle position. The other thing it does is open the IAC slightly more to compenstate for the load of the torque converter.
So you can pull fuse 9, or you can just disconnect pin 14 from the ECU. If you can find connector H10-1 (10 pin connector, in the center console on the passenger side (US cars), there is a jumper from pin 4 to 5 you could also disconnect. There is a chance, depending on idle speed and the like, that shifting into drive with the brake on could cause the engine to stall, because the extra load isn't compensated for.
