A good hammer blow to the bolt on the tie rod end will also easily loosen the joint. To maintain alignment, just barely unscrew the lock nut and then secure it so it does not move. Unscrew the tie rod end being sure not to move the lock nut and screw the new one on. Be sure to measure the new one to make sure it is exactly the same legnth as the old, if not, you will have to adjust for the difference in legnth.
