is it a regular shake that occurs starting at certain speeds? (like 45mph and above?)
if so, the tires probably need to be balanced.
other causes - a bent wheel, a shifted belt in a tire, a badly siezed caliper, a bad cv joint.
bent wheel and shifted belts usually are felt at low speed more than high. siezed calipers usually show up after driving a while, and will cause other stuff to go bad (like the rotor, cv boot, balljoint boot and tierod boot) and a bad cv joint can create really puzzling noises.
this is not a complete list, but should cover most cases.
