the steel belt under the tread can come loose from the carcass and move under the tread. it happens a lot on good-for-a-years and flintstones. you hear many american cars drive by with a wop-wop-wop sound. that sound is usually caused by a bad tire.
to check yours, jack up the front of the car and spin each wheel while holding your hand lightly across the tread. it should feel smooth as it spins, without lumps or bumps.
if it's an inner cv joint gone bad, it (probably) won't make the usual outer joint clicking. search for 'inner cv' or the like to see how many times it has come up.
i assume you checked your steering components for looseness while you had it jacked up? sometimes that can show a shake, but there's usually something that will aggrivate it.
try rotating tires front and back, or left and right.
