Aaron,
Most likely it has been ruined.
Two things to consider: the battery and the alternator. You can have both checked by your mechanic or take it to AutoZone, PepBoys or Sears and they will hook both up for free.
If the alternator's voltage regulator has gone bad, a common problem, it is easy to replace yourself. This may have ruined the battery as well. BTW - there is a Bosch alternator with voltage regulator on eBay now for $50 currently. I think a new VR is around $87 at eEuroparts.
If the battery is simply bad, that's not a big deal. Remember that batteries must be hooked up to a charger whenever they are drained - like when you leave the lights on or whatever. Don't make the alternator do the work over many hours of driving.
Costco has highly rated inexpensive batteries. Those Energizers are nice because they have no fluid, but they have not been highly rated. Consumer Reports rated the NAPA, Duralast, AC-Delco and Everstart brands highly in October this year.
Good Luck
