A few simple audio queries

Howdy
So I've been perusing through the posts here on saabnet concerning the audio and- while I was hoping to have found an easy answer- was overwhelmed! So I have two silly questions to ask and then I'll return to the cave of shame.
Just bought a 1990 9000 CD; the original cassette/radio and amp are in it an still completely functioning.
They also make all my tapes sound like recordings of songs I once recognized. ;>
Looking to cheaply upgrade to a decent CD player.
1. I just won a Blaupunkt RPD550 on ebay; only problem was that I bid without realizing that the illumination was sickly blue and not green. (as in keeping with the motif throughout the rest of the instrument panel) Is it possible to switch the faceplate with another RPD model? (like the RPD 545, which has more green) I may just sell it- lesson learned- and continue a more careful search.
2. I found a few nice Harman Kardon amps on ebay- one fed a Saab 9-5 and another a BMW M5. Both were under $80.00. Would I be able to rig these into my simple setup? (going to by some speakers off of crutchfield)
Thanks in advance for the advice, folks
