In regard to the head unit, if your heart is set on the color, by far the easiest thing to do is re-sell the unit and pick up the one that you are looking for.
As far as the amps, we really need to discuss the head unit first. The head unit and the amp that you currently have installed "speak" through a factory wiring harness that, as far as I know, nobody has figured out a plug and play for your head unit. It would be like trying to plug a genesis controller into a NES if you know what I mean. Anyway, to plug the head unit into your current setup you are going to have to get a wiring diagram, rip up the factory wiring, and then go from there. This is where we get to the amp issue: the factory harness is also on the amp end, so you will have to go through the same process.
I spent about 30 hours last summer absolutely ripping every piece of factory wiring and component out of the car last summer...which i would not necessarily recommend. It goes way beyond the head unit/amp
So yes, it is going to be overwhelming to bring your '90 into the 21st century of audiophilia; if i were you i'd replace the headunit that is plug and play (stick with the 9000's), and replace the speakers with some highly efficient models. If your wiring is good, then you're all set. I've actually got a mint 2 din CD player/tape player head unit if you are interested :)
