My '87 9000 leaked a bit of oil from the valve cover onto the exhaust manifold, and the smell got sucked into the ventilation system. Nasty smell that usually went away after the car got heated up ~ 10mi. I replaced the valve cover gasket and it was gone. If you know the smell of burning oil, you'll go ah-ha!
A '94 with 130k is a young car if it has been well maintained. If it is fundamentally sound, repairs will likely be much less than payments.
If you want new, I think the 9-5 is a nice car. My indy mechanics all love it, and think it is the best thing saab has ever built. They've been working on saabs for 40yrs.
