When I got a new one in March (under warranty from before the policy changed) Dean at eEuro told me a lot of BPC failures were traced to cars that had modified intake systems, such as modifed air boxes and low restriction air filters like K&N. According to eEuro and to the part maker (probably Bosch) many returned BPCs contained small particles of grit/sand that stopped the little disk inside from moving.

Makes sense, I guess, but you can see the POVs of eEuro and Bosch. eEuro does ask for a photo of the engine bay to see if the intake system has been modified.

Still, I had two fail in a six month period on my unmodified 9000 CSE, so I think there may have been few bad ones in the mix. But a good indy I know said they have long been a common failure point.
