I'm fascinated by the number of post these last few weeks on central locking systems. I tried a number of times last year to generate some conversation but only got a few bites - but those few bites were helpful. Lately it appears that the '97s are all having some manner of problem. I could be that the '97 was weak in this area. What I have learned is:
1. The actuators are hard to lubricate and that one sticky one may impact the whole system
2. Always renew the plastic sheet between the decor panel and the inner workings section of the door.
3. A little extra juice (rev the engine) may get the central locks to work when they would not otherwise.
4. Lock the doors while driving, then manually unlock the driver's side when exiting the car. Lock with the key. This saves walking around and locking the other doors.
5. My car oftyen will not lock remotely but will always unlock with the remote.
6. If the interior light is out and the doors won't lock centrally - it is likely the fuse.
Sorry for the length, but I figured a list was a good start.
