The first guy was either smart or stupid. The front tow hook on the Saab is fine to use, that’s what it’s designed for. If the driver knew that, then he’s smart.
However, a lot of cars have little hooks that are used to hold the car in place when being transported (eg on a cargo ship). These aren’t actually strong enough to tow a car with and may rip out if you try. This is why a lot of tow truck drivers will refuse to tow your Saab by its hook, even though it’s actually okay on a Saab.
