Its funny how a new exhaust can do that. I was sneaking my car home illegally one night (I think my inspection had run out, or registration, something bad like that.) through a town WELL KNOWN for stopping cars, just for the heck of it. I slowed down to make a hard left and pull a hill leading out of town so I could avoid the traffic, and when I downshifted....VROOM....BLUM BLUM BLUM BLUM!!!!!! My exhaust broke at the bottom of the header pipe (1992 n/a base model 9000) and it was the most deafening, loud, reverberating noise I'd ever heard! I drove it home, going nearly deaf, and ordered a new pipe from a local import parts place. After bolting it on (and a new flexpipe that finally gave up the fight at the same time), I couldn't believe how quiet, and smooth running the car was! It was like getting into the car for the first time, all over again.
