Aero Auto Problems (long)

Well, my wife and I got our '94 Aero auto back from my daughter's boyfriend. Long story but the short of it was that after he began experiencing problems with the tranny, he decided he'd rather have my dilapidated Toyota 4WD pickup and we traded even. As Adam K said, "makes you have serious reservations about his judgment." So, here's the problem; the car shifts perfectly fine when cold. When it heats up, there seems to be leakage coming from somewhere and you lose 3rd and 4th. Now, he did get a rebuilt tranny for it from a local yard but didn't put it in. In fact, we were going to do that one of these coming weekends but he decided to trade instead. Freshly coming off a tranny swap on my wife's '93 CSET, I don't want to do another for a while. Where is it likely leaking and what can I try first? For example valve body from the rebuilt and gaskets/seals.
