92 900 Turbo-burning oil

1992 9000 T with a whining tubo sat for 3 weeks over winter. Changed oil last Saturday, 2-3 minute warm up, drove 60 miles, whining turbo usually stops after 5-10 minutes driving without pushing it. This time whining lasted then stopped abuptly followed by loss of turbo boost and burning oil smoke out the tail pipe. Pulled over. Car started and idled evenly. Flat bed back home and changed out the turbo the following weekend with a used one (110 K miles, we primed it with oil before installation), started it up and again, oil smoke (loosing 1 pint in 30 minutes of idling and 1/10th mile test drive) and a slight hesitation before accelleration when depressing the throttle.
I thought the initial problem might have been a broken oil seal in the turbo on the exhaust side (since the car started and idled okay) but loosing oil after repalcing the turbo seems to disproove this theory. I would have thought that a blown head gasket, damaged piston ring or valve sleeve would have caused the engine to falter and misfire. Other than these areas, I'm not sure where the oil could be coming from.
I'll check the plugs this weekend for fouling, but I'm puzzled.
Does anyone out there have any other ideas? Thanks for any suggestions
Christen
