battery confusion-Help please

We are confounded. We have the earlier post "new saab..." We were fooling around with things and this is what happened. We noticed that the idle adjusting screw was tightened all the way down. So, we loosened it a little. Got it down to a respectable idle speed. Oddly enough the high running temp issue was solved. However, we went out to run an errand to test it out and it started stalling out when coming to a stop. Could this still be a vacuum leak? or something more? We raised the idle speed back up about halfway to what it was until we get this figured out to stop the stalling.
Now about the battery. We don't think that the battery that came with it was dead. Here's why... We ran to the store and when we came back out and tried to start the car, it wouldn't. All the lights worked, but only a few clicks from the engine compartment. Fiddled around with it some and we removed the Positive battery cable for 15 sec or so. Put the cable back on and it started up just fine! Could we need a new battery cable? Has anyone come across this? We removed the P cable while running and it stayed running, which I have been told means that the alternator is fine, but we just don't know with Saabs.
If someone could just give me the name of the gremlin inhabiting this car I am sure that we could exorcise it! :)
