Again, thank you for your help Ari. Unfortunately this is my only vehicle and I require it for my job, so im kinda in a predicament. Combine that with the fact that I dont make much money. Oh...and I should probably mention that i am in Alaska. Local parts suppliers (no chain stores to speak of) have rebuilt alternators at about 275 PLUS core charge, plus another 50-75 for somewhat quicker shipping (everything takes longer in Alaska). So...thats what drove me to bring my alternator to a rebuild shop (desperation).
Im not sure if I described the brush wear satisfactorily. The brushes are of nearly-even length, however there are slight grooves etched into the contact face of the brushes. The old VR that i pulled out 3 months ago had one brush about 1/4" longer than the other.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge on this one Ari, your old posts have been immensely helpful as well.
