Throttle body water leak? How is that possible?

I got the car started and the engione sounds awesome. It is quiet and seems to be happy. Then I saw a trail of white smoke....mountains of it. I did not crack the head, so my only choice was the impossible. I removed the hoses that pre-heat the fuel, and I capped them off. I then started the car and NO WHITE SMOKE!
Obviously water is getting to the engine quickly through the throttle body. (On the plus side, I guess I cleaned up the valves a bit with all that water running through the intake. Who needs sea foam? )
So, is there a part that fails in the throttle body, or did someone crack the throttle body for me? What gives? I can say I needed to loosen the lowest throttle body nut to remove the top half of my intake manifold. That in and of itself shouldn't have cracked the body, should it?
TIA,
C
