My advice is to DEFINITELY get it done prefessionally. I ordered a kit online that was supposed to be pre-cut to the right size for a hatchback, but the reality was it was cut to something resembling my car, but it wasn't even close. The vendor acknowledged there was a problem with the kit, and refunded what I paid. I bought a roll of tint from AutoZone to see what it would be like to do myself, and I almost drove myself nuts trying to do ONE window. I gave up, and decided the only way to go was to pay someone to do it. The first shop I asked said they weren't currently doing tint, because the guy who used to do it had left. That told me all I needed to know - it is something pretty specialized, and not everyone can do it. I paid about $200 for mine, and it looks fantastic, and after two years looks as good as the day it was done. One thing to watch for is the quality of the material they use and if they warranty the work. You sometimes see cars that were obviously done by the owner, and they look like crap. Cheap tint fades and turns purple pretty quickly. $200 to get it done right is really not bad - it not only looks cool, it also keeps the car cooler in summer, and saves the ac system from struggling to cool the car after it sits in the sun; it DOES save some gas, though that is hard to quantify and not a lot. Maybe $20 per year? I would just try phoning a few places in the yellow pages in your area, or stopping at any shops you drive by who offer tint. That way you will see some cars they are working on and see the quality of their work. One other advantage of a shop is they will know what is legal and what is not under local law.
