I can see where a higher resistance would mean that a higher voltage must be reached to initiate the discharge. Reminds me of a trick I learned years ago. A friend had bought a clunker for use for a few months while he was at a temporary position in England. The plugs kept getting oil fouled and the car would not start. He loosened the wires on the plugs so there was an additional gap of a couple of millimeters. This allowed the coil to develop a higher voltage and make a higher current spark that would burn off the oil. The car never ran well but at least it ran.

I change the plugs every 30,000 miles and regap them at 10,000 mile intervals.
