know....
took car out, started, but cranking voltage was 8.6 dropped to 7.3... started to drive and volts went up to 13.3. ac on dropped to 12.9... previous testing told me the dash is about .2 volts low compared to actual charging, so not too worried, then voltage started to drop further, stuck around 12.4 - 12.6 with AC on full lo. got home, turned off car, turned back on, click click click, everything goes dead.
so i check under hood, and voltage at battery is 12.6 volts, and i hear fizzling from the neg batt cable, connection to battery seemed tight, but was inconsistent, and moving the cable curiously caused the voltage to jump around if i touched the neg cable rather than batt terminal. i'm assuming a bad connection at terminal, this time, but it's strange, very strange, cause it was tight, and clean, so i just replaced cable, but now battery won't start car, voltmeter reads 12.2 on battery, car says 11.4, turns it, but won't catch, and turning slower, so it's back on trickle charge.
i don't know if i solved my problem or not. i may replace the alternator just for kicks too, though i hate removing the alternator.
i'm still looking for thoughts to odd behavior, but maybe the loss of clock/radio was due to poor connection at terminal exposed by load to starter? or faulty neg cable connection within the neg terminal connector?
