I just replaced mine (again), which has been flaky for over a year. It would give me overboost one time, then normal boost. Then it would be OK for a while. But I never knew what I was gonna get. I tried cleaning it, which did help, but finally it was overboost all the time, so I caved an got a new one. Problem fixed!
This is (I think) the 4th one on this car in <4 years. The first one died in 4 months. The next one lasted just under a year. The third one went a year then got flaky. That was the one I just replaced. It came from eEuro and was under warranty--I'd bought it just before their 60 day BS went into effect. They still asked for a photo of my engine compartment to see if I had intake mods (I don't). I can't really blame them, but still...
I got this one from my indy ($293) instead of eEuro ($249), because he warranties it for a year, compared to eEuro's 60 days. And given the track record on them....
He says he sees a fair number of failures of the valve but hasn't figured out why. He said he doesn't see them fail as often on NG 900's and 9-3's that use the same part and wonders if it is because they are mounted horizontally on those cars instead of vertically. Something to think about.
My indy and I, and others here, think there was a bad batch of them produced and they are working their way through the supply system. AFAIK they are all made by one company. Maybe there was a spec change none of us know about. Some here say bad transistors in the ECU can fry the BPC, but others, like BobC know more about that than I. Unless yours are dying fast that probably isn't your problem.
The BPC is a real PITA on these cars. Seems pretty silly to have to replace a $250-300 part every year.
