I had a similar situation with big end of the outer CV boots. The generic AutoZone clamps weren't the right size for me (you might have better luck with the inners). My local Saab dealer sold the correct size seperately at a reasonable price and they were higher quality than the generics, so I went that route.
In the interm I used zip ties which seemed pretty solid. I would imagine even more so on the inner which experiences less articulation. I'm fairly certain that you could use a worm clamp for Home Depot of wherever on the inner, which would be very secure. There wasn't enough clearance to do this on the outer.
